Adhan Clock

Use an old device as an adhan clock

An old tablet, phone, laptop or TV with a browser can show Adhan Clock all day and play the adhan at each prayer. Each part below is done once. Every device setting links to the maker's own help page.

Setting up a TV or screen for a masjid, school or home? Make a setup link and QR code on your phone, open it on the screen, and the clock starts with your place and choices. No typing with a remote.

In Adhan Clock

These work the same on every device. Open the clock, tap the screen, then the gear for Settings.

  1. Set your location and adhan once. Everything is kept on the device and the prayer times are worked out on the device, so the clock keeps going when the Wi-Fi drops.
  2. Turn on Dedicated display (below) if the device will show nothing but the clock.
  3. Install the clock as an app where your browser offers it, so it opens full screen without the address bar.
  4. On an older device, choose the Old School face (below).

Two faces: New School and Old School

New School is the living sky that follows the sun, with the next prayer in a ring. Old School is the masjid wall board: large LED digits on a dark panel in a wood, metal or marble frame, the six times in a row, and a notice line with the day's verse. Same times, same adhan; only the face changes. Old School is the better choice for an old tablet: it has no moving sky, its digits are the largest, and it is built to run on older browsers. We have not yet tested it on a real old iPad or Android tablet, so check it on yours.

To switch, any one of these. The device remembers its face after a restart.

In light mode the board becomes an LCD desk clock: dark digits on a pale panel. At night it dims like the rest of the clock.

The Dedicated display switch

For a tablet, phone, laptop or TV that hangs on the wall and shows only the clock. To turn it on: tap the screen, tap the gear, scroll to Display, tick Dedicated display, then tap Done. It is saved on the device and stays on after a restart. Turning it on also turns on Dim at night; you can turn that off again on its own.

What it doesWhy
Keeps the screen on. It asks the browser for a screen wake lock as soon as the page opens. The footer says Screen stays on or Screen may sleep. Some browsers do not allow it (see your device below), so set the device's own sleep setting too.
Moves the clock a few pixels. Every 3 minutes the whole face shifts by up to 6 pixels along a slow loop. Reduces how long an edge stays on the same pixels. This does not guarantee protection against burn-in.
Dims at night. Between Isha and Fajr the screen darkens. A tap brightens it for a moment. Less light in the room at night and less wear on the screen.
Reloads once a day. After 20 hours it reloads itself, but never while an adhan plays and never within 20 minutes of a prayer time. Picks up app updates and clears memory a page collects over days.
Shows a large Tap to allow the adhan to play card after any reload, restart or power cut, until someone taps it once. Browsers play sound only after a tap. One tap brings the adhan back.

Old iPad or iPhone

Which versions work

What this means:

Add the clock to the Home Screen as an app

Apple's steps for iOS 26 (Apple, WebKit, Safari 26):

  1. Open Safari and go to adhantv.live. Finish setup and tap Start the clock and allow sound.
  2. Tap the page menu (or More), then Share, then Add to Home Screen. If you do not see it, tap Edit Actions and add it.
  3. Make sure Open as Web App is on, then tap Add.

On older iOS, and on iPad: the menu names may differ. Unverified: to confirm on your device. Apple's iPad steps were not checked separately.

Keep the device on the clock: Guided Access

From Apple: Use Guided Access:

  1. Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access, turn it on.
  2. Tap Passcode Settings and set a Guided Access passcode (you will also be asked to create one when you start, if none exists).
  3. In the same screen, Display Auto-Lock sets how long before the screen locks during Guided Access. Set the longest option. (Apple's iPad guide says Guided Access turns Auto-Lock off while active; check the option on your device.)
  4. Open the Adhan Clock, then triple-click the side button (the top button on iPad). On models with a Home button, which button to triple-click: unverified: to confirm on your device. If a shortcut menu appears, tap Guided Access.
  5. Optional: tap Options and leave Touch on (you need touch for the Tap to allow card and the test button). Leave Time Limit off.
  6. Tap Start.
  7. To end: triple-click the same button, enter the passcode (or Face ID / Touch ID), tap End.

Screen never sleeps: Auto-Lock

Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock, then choose a length of time (Apple, iPhone, Apple, iPad). Choose Never if your device lists it. Apple notes a longer time uses more power.

Unverified: to confirm on your device: the Never choice. Apple's page says only choose a length of time. It may be hidden in Low Power Mode or on a managed device.

Do Not Disturb and Focus

Do Not Disturb silences calls, alerts, and notifications (Apple). On a dedicated clock you probably want it on, so no other alerts pop up:

  1. Open Control Center, tap Focus, tap Do Not Disturb.
  2. To let something through: Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb, then under Allow Notifications From tap Add People or Add Apps (Apple).

The adhan is audio played by the page, not a notification. Unverified: to confirm on your device: that the adhan still plays with Focus on. Apple does not say whether Focus affects media playback. Use the test button with Focus on.

Volume and the silent switch

From Apple: silent mode and Apple: silence iPhone:

Unverified: to confirm on your device: that the adhan from Safari or a Home Screen web app plays with Silent on. Apple's wording covers audio apps, not websites. Safest: turn Silent off on the clock device, tap the test button, and set volume with the side buttons while it plays. On iPhone and iPad the in-app volume slider is ignored; volume follows the device buttons.

Battery: Optimized Battery Charging and the 80% limit

From Apple: iPhone battery and charging and Apple: iPad battery:

Old Android phone or tablet, Fire tablet

Install the clock as an app (Chrome)

From Google Chrome Help:

  1. Open Chrome, go to adhantv.live, finish setup and tap Start the clock and allow sound.
  2. Tap More (three dots, right of the address bar), then Install and create shortcut, then Install.
  3. Open the clock from its new icon.

Why install it: Chrome's autoplay policy lets a site play sound when, on mobile, the user has added the site to their home screen (Chrome autoplay policy). Unverified: to confirm on your device: whether this removes the tap after a reload in practice. We have not tested it.

Keep the device on the clock: App pinning (free, built in)

From Google Android Help: pin screens:

  1. Settings > Security (or Security & location) > Advanced > App pinning, turn it on. Turn on asking for a PIN, pattern or password before unpinning.
  2. Open the clock. Swipe up to the middle of the screen and hold, tap the clock's icon at the top, tap Pin.
  3. To unpin: with gesture navigation, swipe up and hold; with 2-button navigation, hold Back and Home; with 3-button navigation, hold Back and Overview.

Google notes some steps work only on Android 11 and up on Pixel phones.

Or: Fully Kiosk Browser (more control)

From fully-kiosk.com, feature list, PLUS licence, downloads:

Steps: install, set the Start URL to adhantv.live, turn on Autostart on boot, Keep screen on and Autoplay audio, then (PLUS) Kiosk Mode. Exact menu names inside Fully: unverified: to confirm on your device.

Stay awake while charging (Developer options)

From Android Developers: developer options (Android 4.2 and later):

  1. Settings > About phone > Build number (Samsung: Settings > About phone > Software information > Build number).
  2. Tap Build number seven times until you see You are now a developer!.
  3. Go back. Developer options is now at the bottom of the previous screen.
  4. Turn on Stay awake: sets your screen to stay on while the device is plugged in.

Also set the normal screen timeout to its longest value. On Pixel: Settings > Display & touch > Screen timeout (Pixel Help). Unverified: to confirm on your device: the path on other brands, and whether a Never option exists. Google lists neither.

Fire tablets (Fire OS)

Old laptop or Chromebook, TV with a browser, Chromecast with Google TV

Windows laptop or PC

  1. Install the clock as an app. Edge: Settings and more (...) > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app (Microsoft). Chrome: More > Cast, save, and share > Install page as app... (Google). Chrome allows sound without a tap for a PWA the user installed on desktop (Chrome autoplay policy).
  2. Start it at sign-in. In Edge go to edge://apps, open the clock's Details, turn on Auto-start on device login (Microsoft). Or Start > Settings > Apps > Startup and turn the app on; or press Win+R, run shell:startup and put a shortcut there (Microsoft).
  3. Full-screen kiosk (optional). Edge's documented command line (Microsoft Learn, Edge 87+): msedge.exe --kiosk https://adhantv.live --edge-kiosk-type=fullscreen --no-first-run Put that in a shortcut in the Startup folder. Windows Pro, Enterprise, Education also have Assigned access: search Settings for kiosk, Set up a kiosk (assigned access) > Get started, choose Microsoft Edge; the kiosk app restarts if closed. Not available on Windows Home (Microsoft Learn).
  4. Sleep off (Windows 11). Start > Settings > System > Power & battery > Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts, set Turn my screen off after and Make my device sleep after to the longest value (Never) when plugged in (Microsoft). Unverified: to confirm on your device: the Never label (not on Microsoft's page) and the Windows 10 path (Power & sleep).

Chrome's own --kiosk flag is not officially supported by the Chromium team (Chromium issue): unverified: to confirm on your device. Prefer Edge's documented kiosk mode.

Mac

  1. Install as an app (macOS Sonoma 14+): in Safari, File > Add to Dock (Apple). Open it and click the green button, Full Screen (Apple).
  2. Open at login: System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions, click Add, choose the clock app (Apple).
  3. Display and sleep: System Settings > Lock Screen, set Turn display off on power adapter when inactive to the longest value. Desktop Macs: Energy, turn on Prevent automatic sleeping when the display is off; Mac laptops: Battery > Options > Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off (Apple). Never as a value: unverified: to confirm on your device.
  4. After a power cut: Mac mini and iMac (2024 and later) and Mac Studio (2025 and later) on macOS 26.5+: System Settings > Energy > Start up when power is connected > Always (Apple). Older Macs' Start up automatically after a power failure: unverified: to confirm on your device.

Chromebook

  1. Install: in Chrome, More > Cast, save, and share > Install page as app... (Google).
  2. Keep display on: click the time, Settings > System preferences > Power, set While inactive and plugged in to Keep display on (Chromebook Help).
  3. Kiosk: real kiosk mode needs a managed Chromebook (Admin console Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Kiosks) (Chrome Enterprise Help). Which licence: unverified: to confirm. For a home Chromebook, use the installed app maximised (Alt + =, Chromebook shortcuts); the full-screen key: unverified: to confirm on your device.

Sound

A tablet speaker is thin. A small speaker gives a fuller adhan.

Then press Test in Settings, Adhan. Do this after pairing, after every restart, and with Focus, Silent or Do Not Disturb set the way you will leave them. Many Bluetooth speakers switch themselves off when idle; if yours does, use a wired speaker or a mains-powered one with auto-off disabled (speaker menus vary: unverified: to confirm on your speaker).

Mounting

No product recommendations; any of these work:

Every device setting above was checked against the maker's own help page on 23 October 2026. Where we could not find a setting in the maker's documentation it is marked unverified: to confirm on your device: it may well exist on your device, as menu names vary by model and version. Check before relying on it. Adhan Clock has not been tested on a real iPad, iPhone, Fire tablet or TV browser yet.
